Question is How does corrosion take place?

Primarily, all the metals exist in nature, in form of Ore, generally Oxides, a stable form. These metallic oxides are not of much use to human endeavors. By Metallurgical Process, Metals are extracted from these Oxides. Extracted Metals are at higher state excitation and are unstable at atomic level.

When these extracted metal are exposed to atmosphere (Moisture + Oxygen), Metal reacts with Moisture and Oxygen to gain its natural stable state i.e. Metallic Oxides. Process of Corrosion, expedites, in Corrosive Environment (Refineries, Tank Farms, etc.)leading catastrophic results (Leakage in Pipeline, Harmful release of Gas to Atmosphere,Loss of Material, Explosion, etc.)
